The DOJ Just Launched the Largest Denaturalization Surge in American History – It’s Only the Beginning

The mechanics of denaturalization deserve to be understood clearly. Stripping citizenship doesn’t automatically mean deportation — denaturalized individuals return to noncitizen status and may then face removal proceedings separately. But the practical consequence for people who concealed violent criminal histories or child sex offenses is that the legal pathway to permanent presence in the United States — the citizenship they fraudulently obtained — is gone.

Assistant AG Brett Shumate made the scope of the ambition explicit: “We are moving at record speed to denaturalize those who sought to deceive the federal government and abuse the naturalization process.” And he underlined what Acting AG Blanche said: this is not the end of the effort. It is the beginning.
