Three days later, Derek didn’t just come back. He practically broke down the door of my private recovery suite, his expensive suit rumpled, his hair disheveled, and every ounce of his usual arrogance completely shattered.
“Emma!” Derek shouted, slamming the door shut behind him, his face pale and slick with sweat. “What the hell did you do?! Who told you to let that man near my daughter’s paperwork? Do you have any idea what you’ve done to my family’s company?!”
I sat calmly in the plush armchair beside the window, cradling Evelyn in my arms. I was no longer wearing the thin hospital gown; I was dressed in a comfortable cashmere sweater and pants that Luka’s staff had delivered to my room, surrounded by security guards stationed quietly in the hallway outside.
Derek took a frantic step toward me, his hands trembling violently. “Emma, please! You don’t understand what’s happening! That man is a monster! He’s manipulating you! He wants the shipping trust!”
“He is my uncle’s eldest son, Derek,” I replied coldly, watching his eyes widen in pure terror as he realized I knew the full truth. “He is my family. Something you never were.”
