My breath caught in my throat. “My father was a quiet high school history teacher…”
I stared at him in utter disbelief, my knees trembling so violently that Luka reached out with one large, tattooed hand to steady my shoulder, his touch surprisingly gentle.
“Derek found out about the trust three years ago,” Luka continued, his eyes darkening with cold fury. “He stayed with you just long enough to ensure you got pregnant, intending to claim legal guardianship over your child and control the voting shares of the Moretti estate. But when my legal team discovered his plan, Derek panicked. He brought his mistress here today, abandoned you, and tried to erase the birth records so he could claim you were an unfit, unstable mother and seize the trust through a fraudulent court order.”
Luka leaned closer, his dark shadow enveloping us safely. “Whatever Derek tells you from this point forward, do not let him know I found you first. And do not sign a single paper his lawyers hand you.”
“Why?” I whispered, tears spilling over my lashes.
Luka was entirely right.
