‘Missing’ GOP Congressman Breaks Silence After Months Away From DC.

Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. is finally speaking publicly after months of absence from Capitol Hill sparked growing questions about his health, political future, and the impact his disappearance has had on Republicans’ razor-thin House majority.

The New Jersey Republican, who has not cast a vote in the House since March 5, broke his silence Thursday in an interview with the New Jersey Globe, saying he expects to make a “full recovery” and plans to return to Washington within weeks.

“My doctors are confident that I’m on the road to a full recovery,” Kean said. “I understand the need for public transparency, and I appreciate the support of my constituents.”

Kean, 57, also attempted to shut down speculation that he may retire rather than seek reelection in one of the nation’s most competitive congressional battlegrounds.

“I’m running,” he said plainly.

The comments mark the first significant public update from Kean after weeks of mounting scrutiny surrounding his prolonged absence from Congress.
