Melania Trump successfully reunites Ukrainian & Russian kids with loved ones as she fights for war-torn families

“Every reunion is a reminder that compassion, dignity, and family can transcend even the darkest of times: war.

“My representative and I continue working with the governments of Russia and Ukraine to safely return children to their families and communities.”

The White House said the latest milestone was another step toward returning children to their homes, communities and those who care for them.

Melania’s initiative began taking shape in August 2025 after she learned about children separated from their families during the war.

She wrote directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin and asked her husband, President Donald Trump, to personally deliver the letter.

Trump handed it to Putin during their high-stakes summit in Alaska that month.

In the message, Melania urged the Russian leader to consider the Ukrainian and Russian children whose lives had been shattered by the conflict.

Putin later responded to the First Lady in writing, opening a private line of communication between their representatives.

Melania revealed in October that the two sides had established an “open channel of communication” focused on the welfare and return of displaced children.
