Mamdani Just Flip-Flopped on Grocery Store IDs in 24 Hours — But New Yorkers Should Hate the NEW Policy Even More

Yesterday’s irony was rich but manageable: Mamdani’s government grocery stores were reportedly going to require ID — the same ID his party calls racist when applied to voting. The irony practically wrote itself.

Today’s reality is considerably worse. Mamdani went on television and killed the ID requirement entirely. Zero identification. Zero residency verification. Zero income verification. Anyone — tourists, out-of-towners, illegal aliens — can walk into one of his five taxpayer-funded grocery stores and load up on subsidized food at 30% below retail.

“You do not need an ID to shop at, no matter what you’ve just heard in the news of today,” Mamdani told MSNBC has-been Joy Reid on Monday.

Mamdani: When we’re talking about a city-run grocery store—one in each borough, which, by the way, you do not need an ID to shop at, no matter what you’ve just heard—we’re talking about addressing the question of skyrocketing grocery prices.
