Democratic Socialists Co-Chair Sparks Bipartisan Alarm

Former Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan urged “normal thinking” Democrats to “renounce the DSA” or watch them “take the entire party down.” He added: “No borders so terrorist can just walk into the US? Amnesty for them? No military at all? Some national Dem please stand up to this insanity before it’s too late.”

Republicans were equally blunt.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz simply declared: “These people are insane.” Florida Sen. Ashley Moody said Democratic socialists are “hell-bent on destroying America.”

The DSA, for its part, responded with a statement that tried to soft-pedal the radicalism while attacking mainstream Democrats.

“Our program is an ambitious, long-term project with a vision for a future in which people’s material needs are met, crime is reduced because people and have good-paying jobs, and families can easily afford their rent. In a democratic socialist future, we fund childcare and healthcare, not genocide and war.”

The group insisted Democrats are “not running on a DSA platform,” then pivoted to blame any future losses on the party’s alleged service to “billionaires and corporations,” asking whether Democrats will “finally become a party that fights for working Americans instead of billionaires, AIPAC, and defense contractors.”
