Darline Graham has looked at the same situation and reached the opposite conclusion — and she’s right.
The filibuster that Lindsey Graham died defending is the same filibuster Democrats have already announced they will eliminate the moment they take back the Senate. Chris Murphy said so on a podcast. Progressive caucus chairs put it in a signed resolution. Chuck Schumer’s allied groups are organizing around it. The only question is whether Republicans eliminate it first to pass the SAVE America Act, or Democrats eliminate it afterward to pass their version of federal election law — one designed to make noncitizen verification impossible and fraud undetectable.
That’s the actual choice. Not “filibuster or no filibuster.” The choice is which party eliminates it and for what purpose.
Darline Graham understands this. So does Trump. So do the seven senators blocking the August recess. So does every Republican voter who has been watching John Thune find creative reasons not to act on legislation supported by 83% of Americans.
