A major leadership shakeup has hit the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement apparatus after U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks abruptly announced his resignation Thursday, ending a high-profile tenure overseeing one of the administration’s most politically important agencies.

Advertisement “It’s just time,” Banks told Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin when asked about his sudden departure.

The resignation comes less than two years after Banks was selected by Trump to lead the United States Border Patrol following Trump’s return to the White House in 2025.
