Out on the lush green lawn, two-year-old Evelyn was laughing happily, her bright, innocent giggles ringing out clearly as she chased a golden retriever puppy through the grass.
He handed me a glass, wrapped a warm, protective arm around my waist, and looked out at my thriving, healthy daughter.
“How does the horizon look to you today, Emma?” Luka asked softly, his voice rich with quiet devotion.
I looked out at my daughter playing safely in the golden sunlight, smiled with absolute, permanent peace, and replied softly:
“It looks completely clear, Luka. Because when you finally cut away the cowards, you realize you were surrounded by strength all along.”
