When Should You Pay Attention?
While visible veins are usually harmless, there are a few situations where it might be worth consulting a healthcare professional:
- Sudden swelling, pain, or tenderness in the veins
- Skin discoloration or ulcers near the veins
- Veins that feel hard or unusually warm
- Rapid changes in appearance without a clear cause
The Role of Aging and Skin Changes
One of the most common reasons people notice prominent hand veins is aging. Over time, the skin becomes thinner and loses some of its natural padding. This makes underlying structures, including veins, more visible.
Additionally, the loss of fat in the hands—a natural part of aging—can further enhance the appearance of veins. While this change is completely normal, it can sometimes be mistaken for a health concern.
