The Appeal Process

About two dozen members of Virginia’s Sixth District Republican Committee gathered on Tuesday night to hear Lloyd’s appeal, according to reporting on the incident. The appeal was reviewed by a committee tasked with examining the procedural issues raised.

If the opposing candidate files a counter-appeal within 30 days, it will be reviewed by a special committee of five members from the Republican Party of Virginia. Two members will be selected by Lloyd, two by the other candidate, and one will be chosen jointly by both parties.

Questions About the Process

Fire department officials stated personnel were asked to help manage crowd flow to comply with fire code requirements due to the large turnout. However, the agreed-upon protocol to allow additional attendees to enter after others had voted was not followed.

Advertisements for the meeting indicated it would run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with registration beginning at 6 p.m., but no prior notice specified that registration would close at 7 p.m., according to the appeal materials.
