Trump’s Latest Move With the Kennedy Center Has the Left Kicking and Screaming

The Kennedy Center isn’t even primarily a JFK memorial. Congress created it in 1958 as the National Cultural Center — years before Dallas. It was renamed in his honor after the assassination. But Democrats have spent the entire Trump renovation fight framing it as though touching the building is desecrating a war memorial rather than fixing crumbling infrastructure on a cultural venue that lost millions of dollars because the board let it fall apart.

The naming fight is a separate sideshow worth noting. Trump’s board — which controls the Kennedy Center through presidential appointment authority Congress gave him — voted twice to rename it the Trump-Kennedy Center and then President Donald J. Trump Plaza. A Biden-appointed judge blocked it. The tarp is still covering the portico where the name came down. The DOJ filing that triggered this week’s meltdown came alongside an agreement to pause further changes until September 8.

So here’s where we’re at: Democrats sue Trump over everything he tries to do — the ballroom, the reflecting pool, the Kennedy Center renovation — not because they have principled objections to the specific decisions, but because opposing Trump is their only philosophy. They have nothing to offer but resistance, and resistance means lawsuits, which means buildings don’t get fixed, which means deterioration, which eventually means the building might have to come down.

Democrats, you sued to stop the renovation. The alternative to renovation is demolition. You created the binary. What a sad, pathetic party.
