An investigation (of sources) conducted by the Justice Department found that three of the informants had been specifically instructed by the FBI to travel to Washington, D. C. , and monitor certain groups that could pose a problem.
The other informants were present to gather information or for personal reasons. But, as legal analyst Julie Kelly pointed out a couple of years ago, the DOJ inspector general’s supposedly clearing of the FBI’s role was political cover wrapped in a technicality.
