That Thing Democrats Say Never Happens Just Happened Again In California
It shouldn’t require legislation. It should be self-evident. The welfare system that working Americans pay for with their taxes should benefit working Americans and legal residents who are on the path to citizenship — not anyone who crossed the border illegally or arrived as a refugee and immediately began drawing government benefits.
The bill is elegantly simple. One paragraph. No bureaucratic gymnastics. No exceptions carved out for political constituencies. No welfare — TANF, Medicaid, SNAP, or any other federal benefit — for illegal immigrants, refugees, or asylees.
“American families are struggling to make ends meet while Washington funds welfare for people who broke our immigration laws to get here,” Paul wrote. “My End Welfare for Non-Citizens Act ends that.”
Democrats who have spent years insisting illegal aliens don’t receive federal benefits just had their argument demolished by the bill they now have to vote against — and by Abigail Spanberger’s accidental admission that 300,000 Virginia “Medicaid recipients” would lose coverage under the One Big Beautiful Bill’s work requirements. You cannot simultaneously claim noncitizens don’t get welfare and then loudly oppose cutting their welfare.
The 24 Democratic attorneys general who sued the Trump administration to block data sharing between TANF and DHS confirmed the same contradiction. If noncitizens aren’t receiving TANF, why does preventing DHS from accessing TANF data matter to them? Because noncitizens are receiving TANF. That’s why.
America’s national debt has hit $40 trillion. Interest payments alone are running over a trillion dollars a year. The welfare state is consuming more than half the federal budget. And somewhere in all of that fiscal catastrophe, 59 percent of noncitizen households are accessing at least one major federal benefit.
