“But as her grieving husband and the sole legal administrator of her estate, I cannot allow her life’s work to stall.”

“I am calling for an immediate vote to grant me full executive authority over all corporate accounts and patent transfers, effective immediately.”

Before any of the board members could speak, the double oak doors at the back of the boardroom swung open with a loud, resounding thud that echoed off the glass walls.

Richard’s head snapped toward the entrance, his jaw tightening in immediate annoyance at the interruption:

“I explicitly stated that this meeting was private—”

The words died instantly in his throat, turning to ash as the color completely drained from his face, leaving his skin a sickly, papery gray.

I walked slowly into the boardroom wearing a tailored navy suit, my hands resting comfortably over my visible baby bump, flanked by Mara Voss, two federal prosecutors, and four armed agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The entire boardroom gasped as several directors stood up from their chairs in sheer, unadulterated shock.

Richard remained frozen at the head of the table, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly, his eyes wide with a terrifying, primal horror as if he were staring at a ghost that had returned from the deep to claim his soul.

“Hello, Richard,” I said, my voice smooth, clear, and completely devoid of fear, echoing through the silent room.

“I brought the photograph you wanted me to take near the helicopter door.”

“You… you’re dead,” Richard stammered, his body trembling so violently that his chair rattled against the floorboards as he stumbled backward against the glass window.

“The coast guard… the ocean… you fell from five thousand feet! This is impossible!”

“I didn’t fall, Richard,” I replied, stepping closer until I stood directly across the table from him.
