The California Democrat, who served as House speaker from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023, holds the title of “Speaker Emerita” after Democrats lost control of the chamber in the 2022 midterm elections. She announced earlier this year that she intends to run for reelection in 2026, though she faces a primary challenge from Saikat Chakrabarti, a former aide to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

Pelosi’s wealth — estimated at around $260 million — has fueled long-standing criticism from political opponents who say her family has benefited from her position in government. Much of the scrutiny has centered on her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi, who has drawn attention for a series of well-timed stock trades.

Among them, Paul Pelosi sold $500,000 in Visa stock before the government launched antitrust proceedings against the company, and he divested 5,000 shares of Microsoft stock shortly before a Federal Trade Commission probe. Critics, including former President Donald Trump, have alleged that the couple’s fortune was boosted by insider information, though Pelosi has consistently denied wrongdoing.
