Hunter Biden Says His Addiction Made Dad’s Life and Health ‘Worse’

“Of course I did,” Hunter Biden said.

“That’s what addiction does,” he continued, adding that while some people might avoid asking such a direct question, he believed it was important to answer honestly.

Hunter Biden said the impact of his addiction reached every member of his family, including former first lady Jill Biden, his children, other relatives and those closest to him.

“But, in particular, to my dad, who never let go,” he said.

Hunter Biden explained that throughout his addiction, his father consistently made it clear that he loved him while also refusing to excuse his behavior.

“My dad never let me off the hook,” Hunter Biden said.

At the same time, he said Joe Biden repeatedly assured him that “when I was ready to come back, the door was open.”

Hunter Biden credited that unconditional support with ultimately helping him overcome his addiction.

“That is the singular thing that saved me — that the door was left open,” he said.

He also rejected the common belief that people suffering from addiction must first reach “rock bottom” before they can recover.

“A lot of people always say that you’ve got to let an addict hit rock-bottom,” Hunter Biden said.
