Murkowski has been allowed to hide behind the 800-mile figure for months. Local election officials, remote villagers, and now two separate investigative journalists have shown up in her state and found the same thing: the premise of her argument doesn’t hold.

She used to support voter ID provisions. She’s on record doing it. The positions she held before deciding to be the SAVE America Act’s most prominent Republican opponent are documented and accessible.

What changed? That’s the question nobody has answered yet. Alaskan residents are being used as props for a position that the actual residents of the communities in question don’t recognize as accurate.

The only explanation that makes sense is this: Her Trump Derangement Syndrome is acting up. Again.

Murkowski is up for reelection in 2028. Alaska is watching what she’s doing with the next two years. So is the rest of the country.
