Armed Man Arrested Near Trump Golf Club As Secret Service Investigates

The arrest occurred Sunday, two days before Trump arrived in Southern California for a Republican National Committee dinner at the golf club after traveling aboard Air Force One.

According to a federal law enforcement source familiar with the investigation, the U.S. Secret Service is examining whether the suspect posed a threat to the president.

The source told CNN there is currently no indication that the suspect was actively planning an attack on Trump but emphasized that investigators are continuing to evaluate the evidence.

Authorities identified the suspect as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Taele was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a separate robbery case before his arrest at the golf club.

Investigators said federal agents first noticed Taele during a security assessment conducted Friday before the president’s visit.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, agents observed Taele walking around the golf course while wearing an earpiece and taking photographs and videos of federal agents and their security operations.
