Last chance to shop at JCPenney anchor store before it closes for good as 70-year-old shopping mall shutters August 31

JCPENNEY shoppers have just weeks left to hit the tills at a major US anchor store before it is forced to close for good.

The long-standing retail giant is facing the axe as Eastpoint Mall in Dundalk, Maryland, prepares to close its doors permanently on August 31.

JCPenney has been an anchor of the 70-year-old shopping center, which has become the latest casualty of America’s brutal mall crisis.

The sprawling mall has been a shopping destination since 1956, first opening as an open-air center before being transformed into an enclosed mall in 1972.

Now shoppers have been left facing the final weeks of bargain hunting before the shutters come down for good.

Eastpoint’s other anchor stores include Burlington, Gabe’s and Value City Furniture, which went bankrupt in November 2025.

Around 100 specialty shops are also caught up in the dramatic shutdown, with retailers now advertising huge sales as they clear their remaining stock.
